Background
The No Excuse for Abuse campaign was created in response to increasing aggression towards frontline aquatic staff. Developed with State and Local Governments and psychologists, it sets clear expectations that abusive behaviour towards lifeguards, swim teachers, and customer service teams will not be tolerated.
Aquatic facilities can be high-pressure environments, especially when staff must enforce rules or manage busy periods. These conditions heighten the risk of occupational violence. The campaign aims to reset patron expectations and reinforce that respectful behaviour is essential for everyone’s safety.
Grounded in modern Work Health and Safety principles, the campaign provides consistent messaging, visual reminders, and practical tools for facilities. With guidance from psychologists and government partners, it supports staff to understand their rights and how to respond when abuse occurs.
Ultimately, the campaign strengthens safe, respectful environments for workers and patrons. By promoting unified messaging and accessible resources, No Excuse for Abuse helps ensure staff feel valued and protected so they can focus on delivering safe and positive experiences for all.
