What is Industry Licensing?

Industry licensing ensures that Lifeguards, Swim Teachers, and Aquatic Technical Operators working in NSW, the ACT, and Tasmania meet recognised standards of safety, competency, and professionalism. By completing accredited Royal Life Saving training and gaining an industry licence, candidates demonstrate that they are qualified and ready to work in aquatic facilities across Australia.

Licensing Requirements

To obtain a Royal Life Saving industry licence — whether as a Pool Lifeguard, Swim Teacher, or Aquatic Technical Operator — candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Successful completion of a National Recognised training course.

  • Completion and verification of all on-the-job practical assessment activities by an approved Workplace Supervisor.

  • A valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) for your state or territory.

  • Submission of a completed licence application form with supporting documents.

These requirements ensure all licensed aquatic professionals meet the same high standards of safety, compliance, and industry readiness
