ROYAL LIFE SAVING


This course is tailored for educators and support staff working in childcare, preschool, and early education environments. It equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to manage first aid situations specific to children, infants, and staff in care settings.
Key content includes:
CPR and AED use for adults, children, and infants
Anaphylaxis and asthma management
Allergic reactions, diabetes, epilepsy, and seizures
Choking, drowning, and head injuries
Bleeding, fractures, sprains, and burns
Infection control and incident reporting requirements
Legislative obligations and duty of care in education and care settings

This course is designed for educators, teachers, and support staff in early childhood education and care, as well as carers, nannies, and out-of-school hours care providers. It is also suitable for anyone working in a role with a duty of care for children.
The course is delivered over approximately 12 hours, consisting of around six hours of online pre-learning and six hours of face-to-face practical assessment.
There are no formal prerequisites for this course.
Participants must be able to demonstrate CPR on the floor for at least two continuous minutes.
The minimum age for enrolment is 14 years, or turning 14 in the calendar year in which the course is undertaken.
- Candidates must complete all online pre-learning before attending the practical session. During the face-to-face assessment, participants are required to demonstrate a wide range of first aid skills with a focus on managing emergencies in childcare and education environments. Competence is assessed through the ability to apply knowledge and perform required skills in simulated scenarios involving children, infants, and staff.
On successful completion of this course you will be issued a statement of attainment in:
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting
The Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: First Aid in the Workplace and the Australian Resuscitation Council recommend that first aid skills are renewed every three years, and resuscitation skills (HLTAID009/HLTAID015) are renewed every 12 months.
