SISCAQU028 – Assist participants with disability during aquatic activities
Swim Teacher - All Abilities
Gain specialist skills to teach swimming and water safety to people with disability through this nationally recognised blended course. Includes online learning, workplace assessment, and licensing, with accreditation valid for three years.

The Royal Life Saving Swim Teacher – All Abilities course is a nationally recognised program designed for swim teachers who want to gain specialist knowledge in teaching people living with disability. Accreditation is valid for three years.
The course delivers the skills and knowledge required to teach swimming and water safety effectively and safely to people with disability. It provides valuable insights into the experiences and needs of people with disability and explores how swim teachers can best support inclusion in aquatic activities.
Please note: Royal Life Saving NSW is not a CRICOS provider and cannot deliver nationally recognised training to overseas students holding a student visa.

This course is designed for qualified Swim Teachers who wish to extend their professional skills to teaching people with disability. It is highly recommended for those seeking to create inclusive programs and strengthen their ability to support all learners in the aquatic environment.
The course takes approximately 20 hours to complete, comprising:
8 hours of online learning and assessment
12 hours of on-the-job teaching and assessment (signed off by an Approved RLS Workplace Supervisor)
Before commencing this course, candidates must hold the following units from the SISSS00132 – Swimming and Water Safety Teacher Skill Set:
SISCAQU024 – Teach water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills
SISCAQU025 – Teach water safety and survival skills
Expedited pathways are available for candidates with existing qualifications. Evidence of these units must be provided during enrolment.
- Assessment takes place across three steps: Online Modules – Candidates complete a self-paced online learning component. On-the-Job Assessment – Candidates demonstrate their ability to apply course knowledge in real teaching situations. This must be signed off by an Approved RLS Workplace Supervisor. Licence Application – Completed with the Workplace Supervisor, who submits the final application to Royal Life Saving on the candidate’s behalf. Candidates are covered under Royal Life Saving insurance until the final Statement of Attainment is issued.
On successful completion of this course you will be issued a Statement of Attainment in:
SISCAQU028 – Assist participants with disability during aquatic activities
Candidates who complete the online learning, on-the-job assessment, and licence application will also receive a Swim Teacher – All Abilities Licence.
The Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: First Aid in the Workplace and the Australian Resuscitation Council recommend that first aid skills are renewed every three years, and resuscitation skills (HLTAID009/HLTAID015) are renewed every 12 months. The Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations (GSPO) also recommend that the Swim Teacher Skill Set and All Abilities accreditation are renewed every three years.
