Introduction
Sprains and strains are common injuries that affect the muscles, ligaments, and joints. They often occur during sports, physical activities, or through everyday accidents such as slips and trips. While generally not life-threatening, these injuries can cause pain and limit mobility. An understanding of sprains and strains is important for supporting recovery and preventing further damage.
Signs and Symptoms
Pain, swelling, or tenderness
Limited movement of joint or limb
Bruising or discolouration
Difficulty bearing weight
What you should do?
Follow DRSABCD
Rest injured part
Apply Ice (20 mins every 2 hours for first 24–48 hrs)
Apply Compression bandage
Elevate limb above heart level if possible
Seek medical advice if severe pain or unable to move
