About the event
National Water Safety Day is an opportunity for Australians to pause, reflect, and take practical action to reduce drowning risk across our communities. It recognises that water safety is everyone’s responsibility — from families supervising children, to individuals making safer decisions around rivers, beaches, pools, lakes and inland waterways.
Through awareness, education and skill development, communities can create safer environments and stronger water confidence. Australia’s connection to water is part of our lifestyle, recreation and identity. Yet each year lives are lost in incidents that are often preventable. National Water Safety Day encourages people of all ages to refresh lifesaving skills, improve supervision practices, understand local hazards, and make simple choices that protect themselves and others around water.
